Doctors and nurses work fast to help two tiny babies who are fighting to breathe on their own. It’s also a race against time to figure out what’s wrong with a very young boy who arrives by ambulance slipping in and out of consciousness. It’s an anxious time for their families, but the staff move heaven and earth to ensure each little patient gets the best possible care.

His mother can’t be there because she’s already at a different hospital with his very poorly twin brother. The ward gathers to celebrate as a young patient marks completing his chemotherapy treatment and the busy staff make time for a special send-off for one of ward’s best-loved nurses. Meningitis is ruled out and the medical team work tirelessly to figure out what’s wrong. Suspicion turns to a particular disease so rare that most of the doctors have never seen it before. If they’re right, swift action is needed to protect the young patient’s heart. On the children’s ward, a young girl comes in after accidentally swallowing a split pin at school. Staff must decide whether to intervene or if it’s safe to let nature run its course. And it’s an important day for a girl who previously suffered an allergic reaction to peanuts.
