The Santovitos are a family like many others: mother Lavinia, a successful lawyer, father Matteo, a policeman, and their children Camilla and Roberto. Their lives are turned upside down one Friday evening when Camilla goes out and doesn't return at the scheduled time. Her parents immediately begin searching for her: Lavinia finds traces of her daughter that lead to a world she doesn't recognize, while Matteo leads his fellow police officers in a thorough search of the city. Their search leads to Kevin, a young Nigerian who seems to have a special bond with Camilla.

Camilla's parents are pursuing their investigations on opposing paths. Lavinia takes a more emotional path, trying to understand her daughter's relationship with Kevin, approaching the boy's world without prejudice, even at the cost of betraying her husband's trust. Matteo is fixated on Kevin, doesn't believe in the tale of Romeo and Juliet, and seeks a way to frame the boy. When Lavinia senses that something is truly amiss, she makes an unexpected and shocking decision.

She works to exonerate Kevin, clashing with the law firm where she works, but especially with her husband Matteo. Her investigations reveal inconsistencies in the behavior of several people who frequented her daughter, such as her friend Valentina and her ex-boyfriend... Everyone seems to have something to hide. Matteo also continues his investigation, which focuses on a prostitution ring.
