The Kingdom is the most technologically advanced hospital in Denmark, a gleaming bastion of medical science. A rash of uncanny occurrences, however, begins to weaken the staff's faith in science – a phantom ambulance pulls in every night, but disappears; voices echo in the elevator shaft; and a pregnant doctor's fetus seems to be developing much faster than is natural.

At The Kingdom, Denmark's most technologically advanced hospital, a number of strange and otherworldly events begin occurring, much to the dismay of its doctors and patients. A ghostly ambulance appears and disappears, the voice of a little girl calls to a patient in an elevator shaft, and a doctor's fetus begins growing at an alarming rate.

Mrs Drusse, a hypochondriac psychic gets herself admitted to the Kingdom because she believes the hospital is haunted. Meanwhile, Dr Helmer, a Dane-hating Swede under investigation for malpractice joins the hospital's secret brethren.

Mrs Drusse continues her investigation, Krogshøj steals the severed head from Mogge and uses it to blackmail him, while Bondo is at his wits' end when a patient's relative refuses to hand over his liver infected with a rare cancer.

Dr Helmer decides to steal the incriminating report but unbeknownst to him, Krogshøj has the same plan, Bondo wants to transplant the cancerous liver into himself, and Mrs Drusse finds out Mary didn't die of TB as reported.

Helmer goes to Haiti which angers his gun-wielding girlfriend, Judith may be pregnant with a ghost, Mrs Drusse reburies Mary's remains but her troubles are only just beginning, and Operation Morning Breeze turns into a farcical disaster.
The mutant fetus is born. Dr. Helmer comes under heavy scrutiny for a botched operation that left a patient braindead, and begins to dabble in the dark arts in order to ward off those seeking an end to his career. Hypochondriac Mrs. Drusse finally does have something bad happen to her medically when an ambulance hits her.

After Moesgaard's tour of the hospital, the director orders the Secret Brotherhood to investigate the hospital's problems. A sudden accident sends Drusse, who had been reluctantly discharged, back to the surgical ward. Despite her difficult delivery, Judith prepares to meet her baby.

After poisoning Krogshøj, Dr. Helmer fears another investigation will be launched and goes to help him. While recovering from her surgery, Mrs. Drusse attends a gathering with the restless spirits, but not everyone is welcome there. Judith's son continues to grow at an alarming rate.

Dr. Krogshøj's life hangs in the balance. Moesgaard manages to avert conflict in the ward, but the Kingdom remains in danger of falling apart. After coming face to face with the embodiment of Satan, Mrs. Drusse must rely on Bulder's knowledge of the Kingdom's deepest recesses.

The hospital is rapidly falling into disrepair. What is happening in the deepest darkness of the Kingdom seems to be directly linked to the neurosurgery department, and Mrs. Drusse is getting closer to solving the mystery. As the investigation into medical malpractice unfolds, more secrets about Dr. Helmer come to light.
Sleepwalker Karen is summoned to the Kingdom by a mysterious voice appearing to her in a nightmare, pleading for help. At the hospital, she comes across old friends of the Kingdom as well as new members of staff. To exorcise the evil spirits once and for all, Karen joins forces with the hospital porter, Bulder, and the heart surgeon, Judith – but satanic forces fight back.
