Cameraman River Haag travels to war-torn Syria, documenting stories of the worst humanitarian crisis since WWII. After meeting a medical unit of passionate volunteers, River finds himself forced by conscience to use his own military medical training to join the YPG in the fight against ISIS, providing treatment to civilian casualties of war, as well as Kurdish, Arab, and even ISIS fighters.

Follows American documentarian, River Rainbow Hagg as he travels to war-torn Syria, in hopes of documenting stories of the worst humanitarian crisis since WWII. He quickly realizes he has to do more than point his camera and uses his limited medical knowledge and joins a unit of foreign volunteers as they provide medical aid to civilians, YPG fighters, and ISIS.

The volunteers continue to push with the YPG to the ISIS-defended city of Manbij, Syria. The medical team is granted access to the front lines and they find themselves on dangerous ground, surrounded by ISIS. River hears bad news from home and plans his exit, but while crossing the border, finds himself in an Iraqi prison.
