The series starred William Daniels, Norman Lloyd and Ed Flanders as teaching doctors in a Boston hospital who gave interns a future in making critical medical and life decisions. MTM Enterprises, which had hit with a NBC string, the police drama Hill Street Blues produced the series. Both series were often compared to one another for their usage of ensemble casts and overlapping serialized storylines. St. Elsewhere was filmed in CBS/MTM Studios, that had been famous as CBS/Fox Studios whenever the show began. 20th Century Fox wound up acquiring the rights.
