Perhaps their personalities that are stunningly different create the relationship between detective Jane Rizzoli and clinical examiner Maura Isles effective. While the richly dressed Maura displays a temperament that is icy, the sole real female cop at Boston's homicide branch, jane, is tough, relentless and rarely lets down her shield -- she is, after all, even convenient among the dead than the living. Together, the friends have devised a relationship that was inviting and quirky. They drop the protective shield in the company of each other, and unite their expertise.
