Lyra is an orphan who lives in a parallel world where theology, science and magic are entwined. Lyra's search for a friend uncovers a plot between kiddies that are stolen, and turns into a quest to know a phenomenon. Will, a boy who owns a knife that can cut back down windows between worlds later joins on her journey her. Since Lyra finds the facts about her parents along with her prophesied fate, both young folks are caught up in a war contrary to powers that ranges across worlds.
