Mel Gibson Unleashes His Survival Instincts in Gripping First Look at "Hunting Season"

Mel Gibson returns to action in Hunting Season, a survival thriller where a father-daughter duo defends a mysterious woman hunted by a dangerous drug lord.

Mel Gibson (Bowdrie) takes center stage in the newly released trailer for the upcoming crime thriller Hunting Season. Directed by Raja Collins, the action-packed film also features Shelley Hennig (January), Sofia Hublitz (Tag), A.J. Buckley (Davenport), and Jordi Mollà (Alejandro).

The trailer teases an intense survival story centered on a father-daughter duo, Bowdrie and Tag, who live isolated in the wilderness. Their quiet existence is disrupted when they rescue a wounded woman, January, from a river. Barely clinging to life after being shot, she reveals that she’s being hunted—prompting Bowdrie to promise her protection from her ruthless pursuers.

Hunting Season follows the perilous journey of Bowdrie and Tag as they shield January from a powerful drug lord, Alejandro, who will stop at nothing to see her dead. Their act of compassion soon thrusts them into a violent confrontation with Alejandro’s criminal network, testing their limits and survival instincts.

Over the past decade, Gibson has carved out a niche as a hardened antihero in gritty thrillers such as Blood Father and Dragged Across Concrete. Hunting Season continues that trajectory but takes a different approach—portraying Gibson’s character as a reclusive hermit forced back into the world he’s long avoided. The result is a performance that swaps urban chaos for raw emotion and primal instinct.

Hunting Season will premiere in select U.S. theaters and on digital platforms on December 5, 2025, as a limited release.
