Fellowship of the Ring Returns to Cinemas in January 2026 for Its 25th Anniversary

Warner Bros. will re-release Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy in cinemas in January 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring. The extended editions will screen across the U.S., with international plans expected to follow.

Warner Bros. is set to return Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy to cinemas in January 2026, aligning the re-release with the 25th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring. The news follows last week’s announcement of a 2027 theatrical reissue for the original Star Wars in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

According to Variety, the re-release will feature the extended editions of all three films and is currently confirmed for the United States through Fathom Entertainment and Warner Bros. Screenings are scheduled for 16–19 January and 23–25 January. At this stage, only U.S. dates have been officially detailed.

Although international plans have not yet been announced, the trilogy’s remastered versions returned to UK theaters last year, suggesting that additional regions — particularly the UK, home to author J.R.R. Tolkien — may also receive anniversary showings.

The announcement arrives amid heightened industry attention following reports of a potential Netflix–Warner Bros. merger, which sparked renewed discussion about the future of theatrical distribution. Recent moves by studios and exhibitors point toward continued confidence in cinema releases. In addition to the upcoming Star Wars and Lord of the Rings reissues, IMAX confirmed last week that more Studio Ghibli titles will receive 4K IMAX presentations after the strong box-office performance of Princess Mononoke earlier this year.
