Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo are usually on the same team when they share the screen, thanks to their iconic MCU roles as Thor and Hulk. In Crime 101, though, the two are on opposite sides of the law. Directed by American Animals filmmaker Bart Layton, the upcoming Amazon thriller trades superheroes for high-stakes heists in sun-drenched Los Angeles.
Hemsworth takes on the role of Davis, a skilled jewel thief preparing for what he hopes will be his final and biggest score. His plans start to unravel when Ruffalo’s Detective Lou Lubesnick notices a pattern in the recent string of robberies, putting the two on a collision course reminiscent of classic cat-and-mouse crime dramas.
The trailer teases stylish disguises, tense standoffs, and a slick LA backdrop, with Hemsworth, Halle Berry, and Barry Keoghan front and center as the crew pulling off the jobs. Ruffalo’s mustachioed detective, meanwhile, obsessively pieces together clues, inching closer to cracking the case. Layton, adapting Don Winslow’s novel, seems to bring the same sharp energy and visual flair he delivered in American Animals, offering fresh angles on LA’s sprawling urban landscape while nodding to the genre’s greats.
Prime Video has also revealed the official synopsis: the story follows an elusive thief whose bold robberies along the 101 freeway stump investigators. When he targets the ultimate payday, he crosses paths with a troubled insurance broker (Berry), forcing an unlikely partnership. As Detective Lubesnick tightens the net, the tension escalates and the boundary between predator and prey starts to blur.
With a powerhouse cast that includes Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Nick Nolte, plus a director known for inventive storytelling, Crime 101 is shaping up to be one of the standout thrillers of 2026. Audiences will get to see how it all plays out when the film hits theaters on February 13, 2026.
