Overview
"Tormenting the Hen" is a scathing satire of city mice versus country mice in country residences, black-box cinemas, backyards, and local pubs. Invited to an artists' retreat by a dippy curator (Josephine Decker), playwright Claire (Dameka Hayes) presents a political one-act on race, bitterness, and masculinity. Monica (Carolina Monnerat) and her fiancé (Matt Shaw) enjoy a relaxing trip until Mutty (Matt Shaw) unexpectedly shows up. With her lover's attentions waning and her neighbor's proximity, Monica tries to retain her sanity as Claire babysits two troubled artists, Joel (Brian H. Brooks) and Adam (David Malinsky). It's a soul-shaking climax with no easy answers for either character or audience.
