The Mayo Clinic: Faith - Hope - Science tells the story of a distinctive medical association that has been called a"Medical Center Mecca," that the"Supreme Court of Medicine," and the"place for hope where there isn't any hope." The Mayo Clinic started in 1883 as an improbable partnership between the Sisters of Saint Francis and also a state physician called William Worrall Mayo in rural Minnesota after a tornado. Since that time, it's grown into an organization that treats a lot more than a million patients per year from all 50 states and 150 countries. Dr. Mayo needed a simple philosophy he imparted to his sons Will and Charlie:"the requirements of this patient come first." They'd not cure diseases. . .they would cure people.
