"What if something you changed had consequences you didn't think of?" Safeguard: The question is asked in an Electoral College Story about how the United States chooses its president. How does the system work in real life, and what is it? We could change the rules, but what would happen then? Alexander Hamilton and James Madison worked together to make and defend the Electoral College system in the U.S. Constitution, and they did it together. People are in charge of the process. It goes through stages and goes through each state, but it is democratic. People in different parts of the country will be able to vote for candidates because of this design. When this happens, it stops presidents from being able to control elections, even when they want to run for reelection again. There are a lot of experts who talk about why we have the Electoral College, what it does, and what might happen if we get rid of it.
