Overview

During World War II, a Brazilian Expeditionary Force - FEB - mines sweep platoon is attacked by a panic-attack that sends them wandering aimlessly in the middle of "no man's land" in Italy's Mount Amiata. With no food or warmth, the unprepared soldiers must decide whether to face military court or advance deeper into enemy lines. After much debate, they decide to attempt a dangerous military mission in order to save face with the Brazilian Army; they will attempt to defuse the most dreaded minefield in Italy. Eventually, they meet up with two additional deserters en route: a repentant Italian soldier who wants to join the Partigianos, and a German officer who has had enough of the fighting. The soldiers, with the aid of an unexpected ally (their former enemy), are about to achieve a mission that was previously thought to be impossible.
