Overview
María, a 17-year-old Kaqchikel Maya, copes with her parents on a coffee hacienda at the foot of an active volcano. She is set to be married to the ranch's supervisor. However María longs to uncover the globe on the other side of the mountain, a place she can not also visualize. Therefore she seduces a coffee-harvester who wishes to get away to the U.S.A.. When this man leaves her behind, Marían uncovers her own globe as well as culture anew.
