Overview

Two sketches based on World War II events. In the first story, "Scherzo alla polacca," a cunning son tries to save his skin and eventually becomes a hero and discovers a purpose to fight. To avert the Warsaw uprising, he initially tries to avoid subterranean training. When he is sober, his drinking, contempt for safety, and cowardice come across as something normal in a crazy world. His desire to live is more important than his wish to die heroically. "Ostinato lugubre," the second novel, tells the story of a guy who can no longer endure the confinement and idiocy of the professional soldiers striving to maintain military preneses in prison. His escape, however, raises the spirit of his fellow inmates, while the "escapee" remains hidden from both Germans and comrades." Polish Film Database
